Some people who have mIRC run into the problem where a server will disconnect (or never connect in the first place) and simply say the error is "dns pool":
[17:29:24] * Connect retry #164 irc.slacknet.org (6667) (dns pool)
If you ask mIRC forum users about this, they'll say it's not mIRC's fault, but rather that the host has multiple IP addresses or it's simply your computer.
Both explanations are insanely retarded, because no other IRC client has this problem, no other program has this problem, just mIRC. Also consider that irc.slacknet.org only has one address asigned to it, so the multiple address problem makes no sense either, and if there are multiple addresses, why isn't mIRC picking one almost at random like it should be?
The best solution I've found to this problem is simply change ports. For example above I'm connecting with port 6667 (default port) however if I:
/server irc.slacknet.org 6668
It will connect like it's supposed to, so much for DNS problems. This is exactly why I've never paid for mIRC, but I have donated to XChat.
Fuck you Khaled Mardam-Bey and the epic fail of a myth you've created.
Spread the word, the fix for this problem is changing ports or IRC clients, it's a problem that exists on mIRC's shoulders, even if they tell you otherwise.
